  • What requirements does World Athletics have for a discus cage for competition use?

    The discus cage should preferably have a U-shape. The width of the opening should be 6 metres and is located 7 metres in front of the centre of the ring. The width of 6 metres should be formed by the gap between the left and right hanging net. The height of the net panels or of the hanging net should be at least 4 metres at the lowest point and in the 3 metres closest to the front of the cage, the height on both sides should be at least 6 metres (as of 01-01-2020).

  • What parts does a discus cage consist of?

    A discus throwing cage is placed around the discus ring with an opening on one side. The ring has a diameter of 2.5 metres for the discus throw and 2.135 metres for the bullets throw. The ring itself is usually made of iron; the surface of it is concrete or another hard material. The cage consists of steel or aluminium poles between which stretchable nets are stretched to catch the ball or discus.

    The sector, the part of the field in which a ball or discus must land for the throw to be valid, is 34.92° for both events. The opening of the cage must be at least 7 metres from the ring and may have a width of 6 metres. A cage must be 10 metres high at the front and have at least 3.50 metres distance to the ring all around.
