The company SmartGoals was founded in 2015 and immediately won the award for best sports innovation that year. SmartGoals is the developer of mobile sports frames with integrated LED lighting that train, among other things, awareness, speed of action, reaction time and the brain. The mobile sets are delivered worldwide to football and hockey clubs, schools (exercise education) as well as physiotherapy practices and rehabilitation centres. This year, W&H Sports has won the Innovation Award Sports Facilities with the SmartGoals Urban SkillCourt.
Winner Innovation Challenge Sports Authority Rotterdam
The first SmartGoals Urban SkillCourt came about when Sportbedrijf Rotterdam challenged startups with an Innovation Challenge at the end of 2019 to make sports fields more interactive with innovative solutions. Together with Yes Delft, SmartGoals won this challenge with the Urban SkillCourt, resulting in a pilot project of the first SkillCourt. By now, the first permanent Urban SkillCourt has been installed at the Olympia sports complex in IJsselmonde. A sports court for young and old, trained or untrained. The court measures 40 metres long by 12 metres wide and has five zones where you can play (train) or test. Each zone has a different theme: technique, strength, performance, speed (running track) and gaming (FUN). In addition, the court has been expanded with the TURNBAR®, a multifunctional fitness equipment.
Working method Urban SkillCourt
A unique aspect of the Urban SkillCourt is the combination of movement and gaming. Via an app, users can be challenged to improve their performance and skills. A QR code needs to be scanned once. After that, attractive exercises can be chosen and the training can start! You can challenge yourself but it is also possible to challenge others. Every user can create his own shield with profile in which the results are visible. This interactive challenge provides experience with a game element, so you can get the most out of yourself, challenge each other to sport and exercise or train at your own desired level.
Ed van der Burg, Rotterdam Sports Authority: “We want to get and keep more Rotterdammers moving with multifunctional, attractive and flexible sports facilities, including this SkillCourt.
Sander de Goede, W&H Sports: “We are proud that we were able to develop this concept for the Rotterdam Sports Authority together with our partner SmartGoals. A sport & game concept for young and old that challenges you to move individually as well as in a group”.
