SportBox in Leiden provides sportsmanship and togetherness

We were commissioned by the municipality of Leiden to deliver our first SportBox. The SportBox is a storage unit for fitness and training materials that can be placed at different locations.

By using a SportBox, the right sports equipment is always available and the sports location can be used in a multifunctional way. The municipality of Leiden has chosen the SportBox original. The SportBox is also available in the new light and XS models. The original and light (dimensions w 1375 x d 840 x h 1250 mm) are equipped with sports equipment of choice. The SportBox XS (dimensions w 572 x d 416 x h 452.5 mm) has room for small or single materials.

Increasing sportsmanship and solidarity

By offering the SportBox to its residents, the city of Leiden stimulates outdoor sports. The box is placed near a public sports field, which makes the sports facility even more attractive for a broad target group. Patrick Nutting, Leiden municipality: “The reason we offer a SportBox is because sports in the public space are becoming more and more popular. We have deliberately chosen to place the box at this location because people in the neighbourhood don’t exercise that much. We hope that by offering the SportBox, containing a varied range of sports equipment, a broad target group will make structural use of it. This will only benefit the sportsmanship and solidarity in the neighbourhood”.

How does it work?

Users can register via an app. Through an app & move concept, users can open the box, book trainings and watch exercises. It is also possible to equip the SportBox with an RFID key. The SportBox is equipped with drawers that can be slid in and out (original) and a solar cell with charging possibilities (via USB). The contents are secured with an intelligent camera system (against theft and unauthorised use). According to Patrick Nutting, the app is user-friendly and the materials in the SportBox are well secured.
